The Dot Product gives a scalar (ordinary number) answer, and is sometimes called the scalar product.
(1, 2)and (3,4)
(1)(3)+(2)(4)=11
The dot product is the Cosine of the angle between 2 vectors, multiplied by the magnitude of each vector.
(-3,6).(2, 3)
-6+18=12
(-1.5, 4).(-4, -0.8)
6+-3.2=2.8
(2, 4, 6).(-0.5, 0.5, -0.5)
-1+2+-3 = -2
